Tapas Basu, a Bachelor from Calcutta University, M.Sc. in Multimedia and MLIS, has also received a Diploma in Photography from the Federation of Indian Photography by “Foto Unit”, Dum Dum, Kolkata in 1989, a Certificate in Video Film Making, both U-matic and VHS, in 1990 and completed an Advance Multimedia Course in SISI, Govt. of India. He was trained in creating planetarium show and astronomical photography by GOTO Optical Limited, Japan. Tapas had started his professional career as a freelance photojournalist in a leading Indian newspaper in 1986, when he was 18 years old and simultaneously got engaged with advertisement photography as well. In 1992 he joined as a photographer in the Indira Gandhi Science Complex Planetarium, the first sophisticated and fully computerized planetarium in India under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of Bihar. From the year 2000, he works in a Govt. organization as an associate scientist in Reprography and Photography  Unit. Tapas Basu attaches immense value to the dictum “SNAP FROM YOUR HEART” and has a passion for creative images that has received many national and international awards. Not only he had received gold, silver, bronze medals but also he has received the national fellowship from Federation of Indian Photography (FFIP and AFIP), Hon.FICS(USA), Hon.PESGSPC(Cyprus). His photographs, has been exhibited in national and international salon, spread across the globe including France, Ukraine, China, Singapore, Greece, Great Britain, Korea, USA, Honkong & others. In 2009, only 19 candidates from all over the World received the Associateship of Royal Photographic Society (ARPS), Great Britain and Tapas was the only Indian to receive it.
